The news reports that the special counsel is zeroing in on Roger Stone’s contacts concerning the WikiLeaks dump of stolen emails. One contact, Jerome Corsi, may have been the go-between for Stone and WikiLeaks. Reporting suggests the right-wing operative and best-selling author has known President Trump for decades, and was talking with him during the years before he ran for president and during the campaign, and could be key in unraveling the relationship between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 presidential election.

NBC reports that the Mueller team is examining whether Corsi knew before the public that Wikileaks would release emails hacked by Russian intelligence officers. According to the report, “Mueller’s investigators have reviewed messages to members of the Trump team in which Stone and Corsi seem to take credit for the release of Democratic emails.”

“The relationship between Corsi and Stone could be the linchpin in establishing what did or didn’t happen in 2016 between the Kremlin, American accomplices, and the Trump campaign. These questions are on the President’s doorstep. Corsi has known the President for decades, he was his partner in Birtherism, and his involvement in the 2016 attack on elections should be scrutinized,” said Kevin McAlister of Law Works.

Stone Jr. … Stone said that he did not plant the idea with Mr. Trump, but that once Mr. Trump came to him with it, he extolled what he saw as the political upside… Mr. Trump also continued to reach out to Mr. Farah, founder of WorldNetDaily, a conservative website, as well as to Jerome Corsi, another conservative writer and author… Mr. Trump also said repeatedly that he had sent a team of investigators to Hawaii to unearth information about Mr. Obama’s birth records.” [New York Times, 7/2/16]
